Vasco Road Flag Barn façade gets permanent home at Contra Costa Historical Society museum

October 15, 2026 By Publisher Leave a Comment

A New Chapter for a Beloved Local Landmark

By City of Brentwood

Painted following the September 11, 2001, attacks, the Vasco Flag Barn façade has been a treasured landmark for residents for more than two decades.

On September 29, 2025, with the barn structurally unsound, beyond repair, and at risk of collapse, Brentwood’s Public Works team partnered with the East Bay Regional Parks to carefully dismantle the flag barn, preserving and storing the painted panels for future display. At their October 13, 2026 meeting, the Brentwood City Council authorized transferring the façade to the East Contra Costa Historical Society for installation and public display at the museum at 3890 Sellers Avenue in Brentwood.

In a Wednesday post on her official Facebook page Mayor Susannah Meyer wrote, “So happy to be a part of the partnership working together to hold onto this piece of local history!”

Thanks to the City’s partnership with the East Bay Regional Park District and the East Contra Costa Historical Museum, this beloved work of art will be preserved for residents and visitors to view and reflect on for years to come.
