Driver wasn’t wearing seatbelt

Sunday evening, on July 28, 2024, at approximately 7:35pm, CHP was notified of a solo vehicle crash on westbound Camino Diablo, just east of Vasco Road.
A white Toyota Tundra, solely occupied by a male adult driver, was traveling westbound on Camino Diablo, east of Vasco Road. Due to traveling at an unsafe speed, the driver of the Toyota lost control of the vehicle while navigating a curve in the roadway. The Toyota subsequently left the roadway, overturned, and the driver was ejected from the vehicle.
CHP arrived on scene along with other emergency services to assist. The driver sustained fatal injuries as a result of the crash and was pronounced deceased on scene.
Based on evidence discovered during our preliminary investigation, it was determined the driver was not wearing his seatbelt at the time of the crash. It is unknown whether DUI was involved.
The Contra Costa County Coroner’s Office has identified the victim but will not yet release any information about him pending notification of his family.
