CONCORD, Calif. – A motorcyclist was pronounced deceased Monday afternoon following a three-vehicle crash on westbound State Route 4 (SR-4) in Concord. He has been identified by Contra Costa Sheriff-Coroner’s Office spokesman Jimmy Lee as Michael Scott Rigsby, 47 years old from Brentwood.
On Sept. 21 at 3:06 p.m., officers from the California Highway Patrol’s (CHP) Contra Costa Area responded to a three-vehicle crash on westbound SR-4, just east of Port Chicago Highway.
A preliminary investigation indicates an adult male motorcyclist, a white Volkswagen Jetta, and a brown Toyota Tundra were traveling westbound on SR-4 when, for reasons still under investigation, the Jetta collided with the motorcycle. The motorcyclist was ejected and subsequently struck by the Tundra. The motorcyclist sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene.
The Jetta was occupied by an adult female driver. The Tundra was occupied by an adult male driver and a juvenile female passenger seated in the front passenger seat. No other injuries were reported.
The occupants of the Jetta and Tundra were wearing seatbelts, and the motorcyclist was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash. Officers do not suspect alcohol or drugs to be a factor in this crash at this time.
The two right lanes of westbound SR-4 east of Port Chicago Highway were closed at approximately 3:25 p.m., while officers investigated the crash and processed the scene. All lanes reopened at approximately 6:35 p.m.
