IED used in early morning San Ramon Target store ATM burglary

FBI called in, suspect(s) sought

On Sunday, July 20, 2025, at 2:19 AM, Officers from the San Ramon Police Department responded to a commercial burglary at Target, 2610 Bishop Drive. Upon their arrival, they discovered an improvised explosive device had been used to gain entry to an ATM machine.  No one was injured due to the explosion, but damage was sustained to a portion of the store’s interiors near the eastern public entrance.

Due to the nature of this investigation, the FBI was contacted, and they responded to the crime scene. The FBI processed the crime scene for the remainder of the day.

There was no immediate danger to the community, and we are thankful no innocent bystanders were injured. The San Ramon Police Department is working with the FBI on this investigation, and we ask anyone with information regarding the incident to contact Detective Hugh Cotton at mailto:hcotton@sanramon.ca.gov.

Another large gathering expected at another Brentwood shopping center today, Friday, July 18

Police issue warning for activity at Lone Tree Plaza; possible repeat of last Friday’s gathering

In response to information received regarding a large gathering being promoted on social media for Friday, July 18, 2025, the Brentwood Police Department is taking proactive measures to ensure the safety and well-being of our community.  The activity is expected to be at the Lone Tree Plaza where Trader Joe’s, Marshall’s and In-N-Out Burger are located.

It follows a large gathering last Friday, July 11, 2025, at The Streets of Brentwood and Sand Creek Crossing, where Raley’s and See’s Candy are located across Sand Creek Road. That resulted in vandalism, stores closing early and five people arrested.

There has been an increase across the country experiencing similar large gatherings, including other counties in the Bay Area. This is not isolated to the City of Brentwood. This advisory is being issued to provide transparency around pre-planning efforts and to encourage responsible behavior from all community members.

Summary of Pre-Planning and Safety Measures:

  • Out of an abundance of caution, additional law enforcement personnel will be deployed throughout key areas of the community to ensure public safety, respond quickly to any incidents, and deter unlawful activity.
  • We have been in communication with key stakeholders, including local business and community partners to ensure a coordinated response and shared situational awareness.
  • Local businesses have been contacted to encourage situational awareness and cooperation, with recommendations to report any concerns promptly to authorities.
  • We encourage parents and guardians to have open conversations with their children about expectations for appropriate and lawful behavior while unsupervised in public spaces. Responsible conduct is expected from all individuals.
  • Zero Tolerance for Unlawful Conduct: Any unlawful activity will be met with appropriate enforcement actions. Criminal behavior, property damage, or acts of violence will not be tolerated and may result in immediate arrest and prosecution.

The Brentwood Police Department is grateful for the continued support of our community. The safety and quality of life for all residents remain our top priority. By working together, we can ensure that public spaces remain safe, welcoming, and respectful for everyone. On Friday, July 11, 2025, at around 3:30 p.m., Brentwood officers responded to the Sand Creek Crossing and Streets of Brentwood to monitor a group of juveniles engaged in a large, preplanned gathering. Over time, the gathering quickly evolved to approximately 300+ juveniles that reportedly arrived in ride-share vehicles or other means of transportation from outside the area. Several in the group became unruly, physical fights occurred throughout the property, several entered various businesses knocking items off shelves and onto the ground, while others ran in-and-out of traffic on Sand Creek Road.

Out of an abundance of caution, businesses within the Streets of Brentwood closed early to protect staff and property. As the gathering became destructive and disruptive, dispersal orders were given for everyone involved to leave the property and to clear surrounding streets. Neighboring law enforcement agencies from Oakley, California Highway Patrol, and the Contra Costa County Sheriff’s Office assisted with dispersal. Four juveniles were arrested for misdemeanor violations and a fifth was arrested for battery on a peace officer.

At some point during this rapidly evolving incident, officers performed a high risk stop on a vehicle, with their duty weapons drawn, because it was reported the driver had a firearm, however, no firearms were found, and no arrests were made. There were no reported injuries related to this event.

Anyone with information or related videos are asked to contact the Brentwood Police Department at 925-809-7911. While our agency supports peaceful gatherings, we will not tolerate disruptive or destructive behavior. We have a staffing plan in place to monitor and deal with any future gatherings.

The Brentwood Police Department takes the safety and well-being of our community seriously. We will not tolerate this kind of behavior in our city. Disorderly conduct, violence, and any form of assault on law enforcement or civilians will be met with immediate and appropriate enforcement action. We stand united for Brentwood. Brentwood is a strong, safe, and family-oriented community. We will continue to work with our residents and local businesses to ensure incidents like this do not become a recurring issue. We thank the community for their ongoing support and vigilance.

 

Brentwood PD investigates report of smoke shop burglary in progress

Early Monday morning (7/7/25), just before 2:30 AM, our Dispatch Center received a report of a burglary in progress at the One Stop Smoke Shop located in the 2400 block of Empire Avenue near Lone Tree Way.

The reporting party advised that suspects were seen on video surveillance attempting to break into the closed business using crowbars.

Within minutes, a Brentwood Police Sergeant arrived on scene and observed several suspects dressed in all black. As the suspects entered a vehicle and attempted to flee, a second Brentwood officer approached and the suspect vehicle intentionally rammed the officer’s patrol car.

The suspects fled the scene, and a pursuit ensued. Despite officers’ efforts, the vehicle was able to flee.

We’re grateful to report that no officers were injured during this incident. However, this serves as a stark reminder of the risks our officers face when responding to dangerous and unpredictable situations.

This investigation is active and ongoing. No further details will be released at this time.

Livermore man arrested for Walnut Creek bank robbery

Shortly after 12:30 p.m. on Thursday, April 24, Walnut Creek Police received a 911 call reporting a bank robbery that had just occurred at Chase Bank, 1390 S. Main Street. WCPD Officers arrived within minutes of the call and learned the suspect had passed a note to the teller demanding money. No weapon was used in the commission of the crime, and the suspect left in a vehicle after receiving money from the teller.

Officers continued to check the area and found the suspect vehicle traveling on Olympic Blvd. Officers made a traffic stop on the vehicle at 1:07 PM and our investigation revealed the driver was the suspect in the bank robbery.

The suspect, 54-year-old Ronald Terry Lane, Jr. (born 10/15/70) of Livermore, was arrested and the money stolen was recovered from inside the vehicle. The suspect was transported to the Martinez Detention Facility for booking and our Investigations Bureau will be forwarding the case to the District Attorney’s office for review.

Walnut Creek Police would like to thank the Chase employees for being quick to report the crime and provide detailed information that assisted our officers locate and apprehend the suspect.

According to the Contra Costa Sheriff’s Department, the six-foot, three-inch tall, 195-pound Lane is now being held in the West County Detention Facility on $50,000 bail.

Tri Delta Transit to host annual community Shred-It Event in Oakley April 24

Reminder!! Get ready for that shred-it time of year! Tri Delta Transit in partnership with the City of Antioch, City of Oakley and others, brings you the annual drive-thru Shred-It Event on Thursday, April 24th in Oakley.

Get out those papers and remove all large binder clips, plastic ring binding, bindings, binders and heavy folders. Event starts at 9:00 AM and is first come, first served until the trucks are full!

BE READY TO DRIVE UP AND HELP OUT

This is a drive-up event where you will enter at the Cypress driveway, wait in line in your vehicle (turn off car if can), then drive up to the truck.

Helpers will indicate which truck you are to pull up to.

Once you stop where the helpers tell you, please exit your vehicle safely. Give the helpers your shredding or indicate where your shredding is and which ones they are. Once the helpers review the materials, they will dump them into a bin for shredding.

If you want to watch your shredding be shredded, please let the helper know. You will need to pull your car over, exit the vehicle and walk to the far side of the truck to watch with the Shred-It employee.

ALL BAGS AND BOXES the shredding is brought it, must be taken away with you.
Unfortunately, we do not have the capacity to keep it and dispose of it.

Cars will not be allowed to line up until all safety cones and precautions are in place.

Event is first come, first serve until the trucks are full.

Keep in mind that this could be anytime after 9:00 am. If large loads come, the trucks will reach capacity quickly.

If the truck is full, you will be asked to take all shredding home with you.

All bags, boxes and containers that you bring your shredding in, MUST be taken back with you.

4 Pleasant Hill convenience store robbery suspects arrested in Antioch following police chase, crash

According to Pleasant Hill Police Lt. Jason Kleven, on Thursday, March 27, 2025, “The Pleasant Hill Police Department responded to a report of a possible robbery in progress at the 7-Eleven store parking lot located at 601 Patterson Blvd. Two delivery truck drivers were making a scheduled delivery when several suspects stole multiple cartons of cigarettes from the truck’s cargo area. No weapons or injuries were reported during the theft.

The suspects fled the scene in a stolen vehicle. Pleasant Hill Police Detectives later located the vehicle traveling on Highway 4 near Concord. With the help of a police helicopter, the vehicle led authorities to the city of Antioch, where the vehicle stopped near Fremont Elementary School. Four suspects then fled on foot from the vehicle.

With the support of Antioch Police, Pittsburg Police, the Sheriff’s Office, and the helicopter, officers set up a perimeter. All four adult suspects were apprehended and arrested.

The investigation remains active, and authorities are asking anyone with information that may assist in the investigation to contact the Pleasant Hill Police Investigations Bureau at (925) 288-4630.

According to a press release by Lt. Joe Njoroge of the Antioch Police Field Services Bureau, “At approximately 2:57 p.m., APD Dispatch received a report about a suspect vehicle involved in a previous incident in Pleasant Hill. APD was requested to assist in locating the vehicle, which was quickly found in the area.

While driving near the intersection of F Street and W. 13th, the suspect vehicle collided with a fence. The suspects then fled the scene on foot. Pleasant Hill PD arrived shortly after, and with the assistance of the Contra Costa Office of the Sheriff and APD, all suspects were apprehended.”

Njoroge later said the four suspects included three males and one female.

Antioch Police issued a Community Alert on Facebook Thursday afternoon that they were “working in the area of Antioch Middle School and the surrounding area of F Street from W. 13th to W. 18th. Expect heavy police presence in the area. If you see anything suspicious, please call 911 or (925) 778-2441 immediately.”

Later APD provided an update, writing, “We have now cleared the area. Thank you for your patience and cooperation. There is no danger to the community, and the subjects we were looking for have been arrested. Stay safe, and as always, report any suspicious activity to 911 or (925) 778-2441.

4/1/25 UPDATE: According to Pleasant Hill Police, the four suspects were 20-year-old Robert Lee Crawford (born 12/9/04), a six-foot tall, 165-pound Black male from Antioch, 19-year-old Robert Samule Garcia-Scrape of Antioch (born 7/22/05), a five-foot, 11-inch tall, 200-pound White male with blond hair, 21-year-old Jailen Emani Scales of Antioch (born 2/3/04), a six-foot tall, 200-pound Black male and 24-year-old Marieilacqua Bartholomew, a five-foot, one-inch tall, 130-pound Black female, also from Antioch. 

According to the Contra Costa Sheriff’s Office, Crawford is being held in the West County Detention Center on no bail; Garcia-Scrape is being held in the Martinez Detention Facility on no bail and his next court appearance is on April 15 at 1:30 p.m. in Department 03, Superior Court, Mt. Diablo; and Scales is also being held in the West County Detention Center on no bail.

According to localcrimenews.com, Scales was arrested last year, on Dec. 6th by San Francisco Police for burglary, conspiracy to commit a misdemeanor, carrying a loaded firearm on a person or in a vehicle while in a public place, receiving or concealing stolen property, and resisting, obstructing or delaying a peace officer. He was arrested again on Jan. 15, this year by Fremont PD for robbery, carrying a loaded firearm and with intent to commit a felony, carrying a concealed weapon with a large capacity magazine, receiving stolen property – motor vehicle, and elder or dependent adult abuse.

No additional information could be found through online searches for Bartholomew. However, according to Pleasant Hill Police Lt. Jason Kleven, she is also still in custody. 

Contra Costa DA, four others reach settlement with telecommunications provider over environmental violations

Company provides services in Concord

Contra Costa County District Attorney Diana Becton announces, in conjunction with five other District Attorneys in California, a $1.275 million settlement with WaveDivision Holdings, LLC — which operates under the brand name “Astound Broadband” within California – over environmental violations. Concord is the only city in Contra Costa County in which Astound provides internet, television and phone services.

WaveDivision Holdings, which provides telecommunication services including cable and internet, was jointly investigated by five District Attorneys’ Offices and the California Department of Toxic Substances Control. Waste inspections at Astound facilities in Contra Costa, San Francisco, Yolo and Placer counties revealed the unlawful disposal of hazardous waste generated by WaveDivision Holdings including electronic equipment, silicone gels, sealants and batteries. The hazardous waste was improperly being directed to municipal landfills instead of authorized hazardous waste disposal facilities.

Hazardous waste can cause serious harm to the environment and the public if not properly disposed. For example, splitters and power taps found in the inspections contained lead as well as lithium and alkaline batteries were recovered.

“Businesses must be held accountable for conduct that harms the environment,” said District Attorney Diana Becton. “WaveDivision Holdings cooperated with the investigation and has since implemented training programs to properly manage and dispose of hazardous waste, ensuring future compliance.”

Under the settlement agreement, WaveDivision will pay:
• $875,000 in civil penalties
• $300,000 for reimbursement of investigative costs
• $100,000 for Supplemental Environmental Projects

Additionally, the company is subject to an injunction requiring strict compliance with hazardous waste laws and implementation of compliance measures to prevent future violations.

The complaint was filed in Contra Costa Superior Court on March 18, 2025, by Contra Costa County District Attorney Diana Becton, San Francisco District Attorney Brooke Jenkins, San Mateo County District Attorney Stephen Wagstaffe, San Luis Obispo District Attorney Dan Dow, Yolo County District Attorney Jeff Reisig, and Placer County District Attorney Morgan Gire. Judge Danielle K. Douglas signed the order on the same day the complaint was filed.
