Monday’s meeting offers opportunity to shape courts’ future just one week before scheduled closure.

BRENTWOOD — The future of pickleball at Creekside Park in Brentwood could reach a turning point Monday evening. The Brentwood City Council has scheduled a special meeting for Monday, October 19, at 5:30 p.m., with pickleball as its only agenda item, following community objections to the process that led to the decision to close the courts. The meeting will give residents an opportunity to address both the near-term closure of Creekside’s permanent courts and their replacement with temporary courts in a parking lot at Sunset Park. The city has announced an October 26 transition, making Monday’s discussion particularly timely.
Members of the pickleball community objected that the September 21 agenda described planning for a new permanent facility and the long-term future of Creekside but did not identify immediate or near-term closure and temporary parking-lot courts as options under consideration. Players say that distinction mattered: had those possibilities been clearly identified, more residents would have attended and directed their comments to those specific proposals.
The community welcomes the city’s decision to provide another opportunity for public discussion.
“We appreciate the city listening to our concerns and bringing this issue back for public comment,” said Aaron Hill, a Brentwood resident and Creekside pickleball player. “Monday is an opportunity to find a better way forward—one that takes neighbors’ concerns seriously while preserving the recreation, friendships, and sense of belonging that have grown at Creekside.”
The four Creekside courts were completed in August 2024. Players describe them as a welcoming gathering place where newcomers learn the sport, families spend time together, and residents of different ages and abilities build friendships through regular play.
Supporters have proposed compromises, including substantially reduced playing hours, fewer days of operation, and quieter equipment. They are asking the city to explore these possibilities with players and nearby residents before proceeding with a complete closure.
Monday’s meeting also provides an opportunity to examine whether the temporary Sunset Park courts will adequately serve the community and to hear directly from the people who would use them.
Pickleball supporters are urging the Council to use this discussion to reconsider the near-term closure and work toward a solution that preserves access while addressing neighborhood concerns. Residents and members of the media are encouraged to attend what could be an important next chapter for public pickleball in Brentwood.
